Casablanca is well placed for day trips because rail and major roads reach several distinct cities without requiring an overnight stay. The strongest choices offer something Casablanca does not: Rabat’s monumental capital sights, El Jadida’s Portuguese heritage, Azemmour’s riverfront medina or Mohammedia’s smaller coastal pace.
Start early and avoid trying to combine two destinations simply because they look close on a map. Train is usually easiest for Rabat and El Jadida, while a car gives more flexibility for Azemmour; always check the return schedule before settling into a late lunch.
Rabat
Rabat is the easiest high-value day trip, combining the Hassan Tower, Kasbah of the Udayas, museums and a walkable central core with frequent rail connections from Casablanca. It feels calmer and more administrative while still offering major historic sights.
Take an early train and plan the day around two or three districts rather than racing across the capital. Check the closing days of museums or archaeological sites and leave a comfortable margin for the evening train back.

El Jadida’s Portuguese City and Atlantic setting create a very different atmosphere from Casablanca. The fortified old quarter is compact enough for a day visit, with sea walls and historic structures forming the main draw.
Use the train when the timetable works and focus on the Portuguese City plus a relaxed lunch rather than trying to cover the whole urban area. Confirm access to individual monuments because restoration or opening arrangements can change.

Azemmour
Azemmour is a quieter river town with painted walls, an old medina and an unhurried atmosphere that rewards travelers who enjoy wandering more than ticking off major monuments. It pairs Moroccan heritage with a scenic position on the Oum Er-Rbia River.
A car or driver is the simplest way to control your schedule. Visit in daylight, wear comfortable shoes for uneven streets and consider combining the outing with a short stop around El Jadida only if you start very early.

Mohammedia
Mohammedia is the closest change of scene, a smaller coastal city north of Casablanca with beaches, cafés and a more relaxed scale. It is not monument-heavy, which makes it suitable for a low-pressure day by the sea.
Choose it when you want a short outing rather than a packed sightseeing day. Check beach conditions and weather before traveling, and use train times to keep the return simple if you plan an evening in Casablanca.
